There is a young child abandoned in the garden of our monastery. She eats the grass, she does not speak and she does not grow up. The nuns think she has an intellectual disability and they take her to a doctor: she has not any intellectual disability, she is just a victim. Before she was two, she was sexual abused and then abandoned. Suffering and fear have trapped her in a cocoon of pain, so she does not speak anymore. Unfortunately this is not an isolated case, there are many abused children as well as many children betrayed by those who should take care of them. Thanks to the help we get from Via Pacis we have a place to welcome these children, to give them a home and to accompany them in this life, that has already hurt them so much. Have visited us other girls who are adult women now, some of them are married; our joy is to be able to accompany them in their life. And we hope that with a little help this young girl can be one of these women who have found smile and voice again.
