On the island of Iling there is a modest village called Buri. F. has always lived here and has just finished the sixth grade of elementary school. She was so happy until a few months ago: she was one of the few lucky girls who could go to school and learn so many things. Her mother loved her, or so she thought, and she had many friends in her village. Sure, they were not rich, but they were fine. Then mom met a man. A man who in her opinion was more important than everything, she took her things and she left with the important man. F. found herself alone. They told her she was not old enough to be alone and that her grandparents would take care of her. F. was happy to see them and to spend time with them. But the grandparents live in Semirara which is another island. F. does not want to leave her friends and her village. She does not even want to leave her mom. One day F. tries to convince her to keep her with her, to allow her to live with her again in the same village as always, with the same friends as always. The mom had another baby. He is small and only cries. But the mom seems to love him more than her. F. has to leave for Semirara. She is sorry to leave her friends, she is sorry to leave her mother, she is sorry to leave her village. But she cannot complain: after all there is still someone who takes care of her. Her grandparents told her that from Italy, a faraway place, she gets some money for school. F. does not know who is sending it to her, perhaps a guardian angel. Her life is completely different from how it was before. But at least there are grandparents and at least there are guardian angels from so far away that allow her to study further. Maybe she will make new friends and it will hurt less to be away from mom.
